Bulletproof Coffee
/I have to admit, this one was kind of a leap for me. I would consider myself moderately healthy. Meaning, I eat what I want, which for the most part, happens to be what I would consider "healthy" foods. I enjoy eating lots of salads, quinoa, and kale. My diet also happens to include burgers, fries, chocolate, and ice cream. Because life is all about balance, right?
So when I first heard about Bulletproof Coffee, I was intrigued but skeptical. The concept is basically to add grass-fed butter and coconut oil (I know) to your morning brew, and blend till it becomes frothy. The results promise increased staminia and no "caffeine crash" that so often happens with traditional caffeine intake.
I tried it for a few mornings, and I have to say, I love it. I didn't follow the recipe exactly, I just brew my coffee in our french press and then add 1-2 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil, and blend. I love the rich, creamy, taste, and the fact that it needs no sweetener or cream. It's both filling and satisfying, and I love not getting the "jitters." I feel like my body adjusts to the caffeine more slowly, and the effects last longer, possibly due to the fact that your insulin levels raise less sharply when your body is also processing fats simultaneously.
I don't really understand the entire science behind this, but I do know that the health benefits of coconut oil have been getting a lot of press recently. People seem to swear by it, and it uses seem endless, for everything from cooking to skin care to lowering cholesterol.
All in all, even though I don't know about all the claims of coconut oil or Bulletproof Coffee, I definitely appreciate the slower caffeine absorption and no afternoon crash. Have you tried Bulletproof Coffee? Would love to hear your thoughts!
